Researchers ask What is Wisdom?

Published by Greg Heffron on

This helpful article from Prof. Patrick B. Williams of the University of Chicago’s Wisdom Research project on the relationship between mindfulness meditation and wisdom in a modern, secular context is worth considering. What does wisdom mean across different traditions and approaches? And how do we learn it?

The Wisdom Research project says about itself: “Wisdom was once regarded as a subject worthy of rigorous scholarly inquiry in order to understand its nature and benefits; however until recently wisdom has been relatively overlooked as a topic for serious scholarly and scientific investigation. It is difficult to imagine a subject more central to the highest aspirations of being human. ┬áThe study of wisdom holds great promise for shedding light on and opening up new insights for human flourishing.” See more here.
