June 13th, 5pm (PST) – Yellow Light Reactions: A Case Of Mistaken Identity
How Five Toxic Conversation Patterns Trigger Self Doubt
The Yellow Light represents our most vulnerable moments. It is when we feel shaky, shaken and lose touch with our fundamental confidence. From the point of view of Mindful Communication, this all happens because of small but crucial mistakes we make that have become ingrained as habits. These patterns often get triggered by encounters with “The Red Light” of reactivity. Come discover how Yellow Light fears are far from our enemy, and in fact are the key to reconnecting with our true confidence, intelligence and warmth (The Green Light).

Sept 19, 5pm (PST) – The Four Seasons of Mindful Relationship: Summer
Part 3 of 4: Intimacy: Building A Circle of Trust
When someone we’re in a relationship with experiences a loss of confidence (the Yellow Light) we can highlight his/her strength through the power of “encouragement.” This is “going for the gold” or finding the best in ourselves by discovering the best in others. This method allows someone to remember his/her Basic Goodness and helps “jump start” one’s basic intelligence and sensitivity. In this way, relationships can feed our mutual confidence and provide us strength. Acharya Chapman will explain how we know when to utilize encouragement (and when not to). The class will also look at the stuck habitual patterns that can arise in established relationships (enmeshment) and consider how we might release habits, while cultivating intimacy.

– The Four Seasons of Mindful Relationships: Autumn
Part 4 of 4 – Unconditional Friendliness – letting go
This class will focus on how we work with endings: from the end of a short conversation to the dissolving of an important relationship. We sometimes bury bereavement in ‘heartless mind’ patterns — blaming others or ourselves for loss. How can we come to accept the shadow side of our communications, which is the fear we carry about the disconnections we experience every day, and open to the natural cycle of letting go?

Nov 14, 5pm (PST) – (Re)Writing our Spiritual Autobiography
Part 1 of 3: Love and Loss
What is a spiritual autobiography? The stories we usually tell ourselves about our lives are not always investigated for accuracy or meaning. Our identity is like a frozen photo album, snapshots taken by someone else that are edited to be familiar, but really are full of gaps. A spiritual autobiography is more interested in the gaps. Examining our spiritual journey, we ask different questions. What are the turning points, the rites of passage, the dark nights of the soul that brought meaning into our lives? How did we practice mindfulness? What were the disciplines and creative processes that preserved our sanity through challenging times? The methods for examining our lives in this course are non-threatening and sometimes playful, drawing from Jungian fairy tales, multi-generational family systems, and various emotional landscapes of our ‘life-map.’ The intention is to enable each participant to begin the process of ‘life review’ to free ourselves from unexamined fears and self doubts.
