Take Your Spiritual Autobiography to the Next Level

Let’s wander beyond the path, and into the wilds…

For much of my early writing training, I focused on fiction. Later, I spent several years writing in my non-fiction graduate program — a huge step forward for me in understanding my life journey. After that, when working on a memoir (unpublished, but transformational), I found myself painting large sections of wildly imaginary fiction alongside the non-fiction.

And… It changed my life…

In this course, we don’t have to cover the basics of Spiritual Autobiography and can be more expansive and exploratory. Here, you’ll get to sink deeply and fully into producing one single piece of writing, to express the depth of your life experience using imaginal techniques.

Why let go of reality and enter the imaginal?

How real is “reality” anyway? When we’re honest, we spend most of our times lost in mental images, reconstructed memories, fantasies about conversations that “should have” happened, etc. We imagine reality more than we pay attention to it.

You’ve already used techniques like extended metaphors to look at your experience through a different lens. Here, we’ll squirm through the tight passages, into the places beyond what you’ve already noticed in yourself.

Having spent years delving deeper and deeper into my own stories, I can say without a moment of doubt: anyone can tap into greater and greater levels of self-perspective by consciously using imaginative techniques.

Creativity is Navigating the Unknown

Let’s face it. Telling even the most well-crafted story is tedious if you already know the ending.

I’m hoping you have a firm sense from previous courses that we’re not just artfully telling stories we know well. We’re aiming to find the unknown in the cracks and crevices of our experience and imagination.

Boring beautiful stories have already been “completed.” They’re a comfy armchair in your living room — nice, but known.

But when you’re sailing your tiny boat along a rocky coastline which no other human has touched before…

You’re never bored for a moment.

Stories are Sacred

Once we glimpse the full power of imagination, we realize how vast our mind is.

This isn’t just fun — though it definitely should be fun!

Writing into the unknown reveals the innate nature of the SOUL, and allows us to relax further into who we really are.
