Often in life, we suffer alone. Fearing to make ourselves vulnerable, we hold onto misconceptions about ourselves, others and life itself. From this fear, we suppress and distort our behavior, our emotions and our thinking, hoping that nobody will notice our underlying anxiety. This workshop will focus on how to create “Circles of Support” to learn how sharing our vulnerability with a close group of friends/family can gradually uncover suppressed truths. Releasing these truths, they can become wisdom, turning weakness into strength. To do this, we need to work skillfully with others, learning a simple but useful set of guidelines so that vulnerability is protected and anxiety is allowed the support to open at a realistic pace.
Based on the work presented in Acharya Susan Gillis Chapman’s The Five Keys to Mindful Communication, this workshop will present the basics of Chapman’s Mindful Communication to newcomers, as well as deepening the understanding of those familiar with the approach.
