Coming from core teachings by Chögyam Trungpa as adapted into Acharya Susan Chapman’s Five Keys to MindfuI Communication, “The Power of Peacemaking” weekend will explore the four ways that aggressive speech escalates into conflict.
From her book, Susan Chapman highlights the “Five Key” elements of Mindful Communication – silence, reflection, encouragement, discrimination, and responsiveness – that allow us to listen more deeply to others and develop more clarity and confidence in the response.
Using the skills of Mindful Communication, we will focus on four ‘positive interruptions’ to stop the escalation of harmful speech and behaviours that build walls rather than bridges. Based on a contemplative approach, this work begins with developing a sense compassion for ourselves, then expanding this to others, even those we deem as ‘enemies’.
